Yeah, these Gulf of Mexico quakes are very intriguing. We had one back in 2006 in the Gulf that was a 5.8 along the Cuba fracture zone running NW to SE from LA down to Cuba. Often intraplate earthquakes are old, remnant faults (likely ones associated with rifting when the Gulf was formed) that have been "reactivated" so to say by distant stress.
