Problem is...I don't know how we keep Locksley (one of our top recruiters) if he doesn't get the OC position. It's a complicated set up for Saban.

He's obviously milling over the FSU job and he's popular with the players.. but I am adamant that his abilities as an actual playcaller/player developer may not be the standard Saban is looking for, especially if he's really pursuing Chip Long. Chip Long isn't as good of a recruiter as Locksley is, but on the flip side he hasn't been at any program that I would consider particularly easy to recruit to.

He doesn't have a show clause as an assistant, but one as a head coach. He doesn't face any restrictions for recruiting either....

Most importantly in my book is how parents of recruits view him...

That's easy - they view him like a money faucet.

FSU is NOT hiring Locksley as their OC, so that leaves him as a potential candidate still here.

Also, Jim McElwain contacted Saban about the vacancy according to reports. 3 years ago he would've been my first hire but after the absolute dumpster fire that was his offenses at Florida and just the general piss poor state of the program, I don't think he's as good of a name as he used to be. I wouldn't mind having him as some sort of assistant or analyst, preferably with RBs or the offensive line, but I think he needs to work his way back up to being a coordinator.

Chip Long's name has sort of faded so I don't think he'll be our guy. I'm thinking it's most likely Locksley with Freeze in an analyst role and maybe McElwain in an analyst or assistant role. Both coaches have a tarnished reputation and need to go through Saban's ol coaching rehabilitation program.

Washington State QB Tyler Hilinski was found dead from suicide. Considering he started in the Holiday Bowl and seemed to be the favorite heading into 2018, it seems to have shocked the collegiate football world. As a society, it seems men are viewed as weak when dealing with mental health issues...and I can only imagine that is magnified on a college football team. Until we stop viewing mental health issues as something someone can "get over" we will never get over this mental health crisis. Do we tell people with cancer to "toughen up, get over it" or "power through it?" It should be treated as such....a disease.

Sorry, that is my rant for the day. It just hurts me to see someone about my age think they have to end it all.

Reports are there's tension within the football program regarding Hugh Freeze.. Saban wants the hire but the administration and the SEC are not very willing to let that happen.. this may be interesting.

Sounds like we're going with a dual-OC system next year. Locksley will become the lead OC but we also hired Josh Gattis. Locksley will design the offensive scheme but remain in the booth and supposedly Gattis will be calling plays on the field.

What an incredible crowd yesterday for the national championship parade (the real one....get lost UCF). It was the biggest crowd of the last few national championship celebrations. My favorite line was from Saban, "we aren't finished yet." Great atmosphere for hosting several big recruits as well...

IIRC, the weather hasn't always been great for these parades. Yesterday was as good as you will get in January. Glad the turnout was good.

January 2013 parade for the 2012 Natty was chilly, but the weather was nice. January 2016 was downright cold. This was the best out of the 3 I attended. Initial estimates were close to 40,000. Just wow.

A-Day has been set. A lot of hype around this coming spring game. April 21st at 1pm.

Saban ruined A Day for me. I used to like to go when there were only 30k-40k there, but fighting an almost packed house for a scrimmage? No thanks!

I think that’s the most Trump-esque post you’ve ever made.

I've never seen a more ludicrous arrest than Marlon Humphrey's felony robbery charge for taking a $15 phone charger from an Uber. Glad UAPD and the Tuscaloosa County justice system is keeping us safe from the savage criminals.
