Tallapoosa County schools will close at 1 p.m. Thursday and open at 10 a.m. Friday in response to inclement weather predicted to hit the area this week, according to superintendent Phillip Baker.
The decision came after Baker and Tallapoosa County Emergency Management Agency director Joe Paul Boone held a phone conference with a representative from the National Weather Service Wednesday morning.

All you have to do now days is say it's going to be cold and a half inch of snow and they close schools

Unlike any event we've had in at least a good 3 or 4 years, if there's a half inch of snow on the ground, there will be a half inch of snow on the roads, also... even the non-elevated surfaces. This is NOT a situation like in 2008 where we had accumulation on grass at 34F and as soon as the precip slacks back up, it turns to rain. Ground temperatures as far south as Livingston have been at least as cold as the mid 30s for three days, and that was before the colder overnight lows happened the past couple of nights. That was after our first night of teens. Not all situations are always the same...
