UAH has canceled classes as well.

UAB? Nothing.

I'm fully aware of the alert.

Good for you.

I don't think you understand, and I'm not sure why you are being pithy. I've driven to class half-a-dozen times over the past few years only to see it was canceled by the individual professor. For me, at least, it is a 45 minute drive -- in the rain and wind. It doesn't seem very practical to leave it to individual professors to cancel classes -- especially since they don't have a way to disseminate the information -- unless people can access their e-mail at home, work, or by Smartphone.

The problem with UAB's policy is that it does nothing to keep people informed and safe. Throwing out a warning on the main website -- yet still requiring people to attend class (even though they may drive in and find it canceled) is not a good way to assure that people stay safe. Yes, UAB has the CYA part of their policy that says that no one should take risks or put themselves at harm, but that is pretty subjective isn't it? When there are quizzes, tests, assignments, etc... you have some people who can make it safely and some that cannot. Even more annoying is the haphazard way that things are handle ON Campus. I've had classes that were dismissed during Tornado Warnings (that included the Downtown area), and I've had some Professors that just kept teaching and ignored it. I've yet to have a single person who took it seriously and took people to safety. One day the lackadaisical manner in which things are handled will come back to bite UAB.

You may be completely happy with how things are done, but I am not. So, yes, I stand by my opinion that UAB did nothing -- as they always do  -- expect for causing people to unecessarily drive in dangerous conditions.

I'm having a difficult time finding where I registered an opinion on what they were doing - I merely posted something that showed what they were doing. If I was short with you, it's only because I'm busy watching a tornado on radar heading towards my wife and three kids, not because I was registering an opinion. I understand your critique perfectly.

I think it's time for UAB to make some revisions to their policies regarding severe weather closings and cancellations.
