http://www.youtube.c...h?v=d4ad11aOnqU Trip from Madison MS to Westminster, Maryland amazing variety of clouds encountered in a 6 hour flight. In this video, air temp was 32 at cruise, while folks below me sweltered in 90+ temps. Who needs AC? icon_biggrin.gif
Thundstorms??? http://www.youtube.c...h?v=tsKjwTe3p1w check out the rain shafts I had to weave around.

Got tons more of flying / cloud pics from the "alto" region at http://www.youtube.c...=BeechSundowner, some to music, some to the drone of a single engine plane.

Hope people enjoy them as much as I had being priviledged being there! Anybody else have any to share????

I took a private pilots course at the madison county exec airport a few years ago, it was really fun, wish I would've taken up the offer for a ride on a flight for $50.

How much does it cost to rent/fuel a plane to go down to the beach in Destin or PCB and back?

Average rental cost is $100 an hour for an IFR (instrument flight rule) equipped plane, with four seats. 2 seaters run $75

After I got my visual flight rule license, I bought a BeechSundowner, thus my handle for 38K. I figured to fly about 100 hours or more a year so I pretty much have paid for my plane instead of someone elses (rental)

The average Cessa burns about 9 gallons an hour, and goes 110 knots (125 mph). Fuel runs about 3.50 to 4 a gallon. So, figure on about $36 a flight hour which more often then not breaks about even as the cost of driving there (assuming you have a truck like me) icon_biggrin.gif

For me, from KMBO (Madison MS) to Destin, takes just over an 1 1/4 to get there. http://flightaware.c...1128Z/KMBO/KMDQ should give you a good idea how much distance I cover in 2 short hours and that was with headwinds per http://flightaware.c...O/KMDQ/tracklog.

For those that enjoy looking at sunrise and sunset pics that I have taken in the past, I compiled a video to the song Sunshine on my Shoulders by John Denver. Most are ground based pics, but there are some aerials as well.
